Hehe, not like that. Just that he finished strong where many folks from 20-30 age group struggled.

Apologies to Doc

hehe, Rajesh started quoting age when a young whippersnapper [meant in a good way of course] like Sir Rupert came along. So, I'm doing the same thing, or rather Akshay is doing it for me

Actually sir rupert is not that young (just 5-6 years younger that rajesh?) when compared to real youngistans like Aman and Pankaj. But the dark lord darth rao is in a different league. My long term goal is that I should be able to ride as much and as strong as Darth rao does when I am his current age a decade from now :) .

This is one thing I don't understand... does it mean younger riders are supposed to be strong???? or is it a big shame for someone older to finish ahead??? In that case I should die of shame.... my ride partner is nearly 2 decades older than me and yet just as strong. why is there always comparisons here??? I don't know why are people far too occupied with what others are doing and how they ride or train or finish!!! and anything lower is looked down upon with shame!!! I guess this is one reason why Daily Mile is so engaging, cause it satisfies the desire of who's doing what. Anyway to each his own.

The guy wearing the rock racing jersey is Dr.D? He is the only one who looks like a roadie scum in that picture. Siva would have qualified too but he is smiling.

 except you can amend that to 'fat' roadie scum, and Siva is so endearing he can never be roadie scum, much to his disappointment.

Kaushik,

I dont look 'down' on anyone. In fact I keep using the line that whatever you are doing on a bike HAS to be better than being on the couch.

Also, I dont care if some one looks down on me. I'm enjoying what I'm doing. Moment I stop enjoying it, it becomes work and not fun.

Regarding age? Well, you have to accept that age as well as sex are factors in fitness. A younger guy will probably impriove faster and ride better than an older guy. Its a fact of life. Yes, someone will pull out Georg etc as examples, but they have been cycling from the age of 8 or so.

Take a newcomer at 25 and 35 and there will be a difference. Women will never be as fast as the men.

What is even more amazing is Doc Arvind at 41. His dedication has really paid off. If he were 30 it would not have been that amazing and he would have been just another strong rider, but considering age, it is awesome.

A last line - why do you race?

Have you switched from ... to ??? and !!! :)

Kaushik you took it in a wrong way. For a newbie like me, someone twice the age of mine leading the group is a welcome cheerup when I myself was struggling to set my pace right. And I am sure many young riders riding with him would feel the same. What shame are you talking about my friend? I am happy that the event Ivolunteered for inspired so many young riders and for sure many would take inspiration from those riders for whom 200 was an impossible category and still they fought and made it within the time limits. I salute them.

DailyMile, like BZ, just inspires me to ride more. When I see the kind of rides other people are doing, I get the urge to get off my ass and ride. I guess it is a kind of comparison, but in a very friendly spirit. It's nice to see people train hard.

Great way of looking at it!

Doc my question was to Akshay cause of this...
Just that he finished strong where many folks from 20-30 age group struggled

I meant so what if they struggled, & you rode strong, That isn't a bad thing right. I've heard cyclists not appreciating their own efforts even if they produce good results, "self Loathing" is a good thing to one must also appreciate & be happy about their results & move on to the next.

A last line - why do you race?

Doc, I'm a cyclist, never experienced road racing & loved it and I'll be doing more races in the future. It's cause I'm quite open & broadminded in general; sticking to just one thing isn't in me. I like regular riding as much as I like riding fast, riding those Ultra Distances & I equally loved that race & yes I also like to Tour & commute or take a break & go into the trail once in a long while too (one reason I haven't sold my MTB yet). Each form has it's own small experience & I don't hate any of them yes I love some things more than the others.
DailyMile, like BZ, just inspires me to ride more. When I see the kind of rides other people are doing, I get the urge to get off my ass and ride. I guess it is a kind of comparison, but in a very friendly spirit. It's nice to see people train hard.

Quite true & nothing wrong in it too, but I guess improvements comes off better if the desire & motivation is driven from within & not because someone else is improving, atleast for me but yes everybody is different. I just posted my thought.
