My Brevet launch ride

Postby akshay200x » December 5th, 2010, 7:07 pm

First, thanks to all organisers/vounteers(me too :) ) for a fantastic ride.

Went in Manish Sharmas car from home till Cubbon park. Reached at 0540. Many riders had already assembled. After a briefing by Vasu and distributing the forms, we sent the first batch out at 0630 sharp. I started some 10 minutes later with Shreyas, Rohan, Naveen, Dipankar, Craig etc. Had some pain in my calf muscles and to add to that lost my rear light 3kms into the ride. Kept up with this group till 25K mark after which a dropped off. They paced quite a lot. Headwinds where killing on the way and we had to struggle to descend even at 30+ speeds. Reached the 50K checkpoint and got the form stamped. regrouped with Rohan, Dr Rao, Murthy and rode till Kamat Upachar for a breakfast. We were treated to some 200+kmph speed show by a R1, Gixxer and another bike. Got fresh and Kamat and started for the remaining 40K to 100K turnoff. In between got my tempo right and reached 100K easily. Saw doc Arvind returning when we were still 18kms away. He was fast!

Regrouped at 100K and started riding with leading group. Saw many riders passing by towards 100K. Someone from lead group dropped, Craig sprinted and disappeared and I started riding with our admin Abhi.Had fun riding with him. Cheered up almost all riders heading for 100K mark. He rides nicely and specially i liked his no hands on bars stunts. Till here we were riding 4th -5th. Also told couple of motorbikers that we were riding from Hydrabad. Meanwhile I ran out of water and took a pitstop for 6 bananas, a pepsi and 2ltrs of water. Riding back again and felt really good. Pacelined a lot with Abhi. I maintained an avg of almost 27kmph till 190 mark after which city phobia took over me and i slowed down. Reached Cubbon park at 1513hrs and finished the ride. I was the 6th to finish with Abhi 7.

Total distance: 197km
ride time 7hrs 20min
I did not take any break on return ride except water break. Asked Abhi if he was OK with skipping lunch as I was having such a nice tempo. Thanks Abhi
I can call this one of the best rides so far. Got every ounce of my confidence back. Very very happy :)

And sorry, no snaps, I was too busy riding..

Hey man,

how about names on the snap? I can only make out Doc rao (courtesy the cannondale) in that snap!

and doc arvind is FASSST! If you saw him returning with 18km to go, i.e in the time you did 82, he did 118. If you finished with 26.9kph - he would be *gasp* 38.66 kph! Over 118km, that is an insane speed.

Rupert, Boni - you listening? Seems doc bhateja is the real mccoy then! :)

akshay,

your timing is door to door or as per cyclocomp (i.e excluding breaks) ??

Hitanshu, That was excluding breaks. Could have done it nonstop very easily if I was wise enough to carry energy bars and some ORS. Saved the day borrowing stuff from Roahn Manish and KSP. Return 100 was nonstop except a water filling break. I started from home with 800ml of pure H2O. *sigh*

Doc, I have a lot of fat to burn. that helps. :)

that is really nice.
how can you guys be there on the saddle for this long time ?
isn't it hurt ?
i am facing this problem right now.
for me being on the saddle more than an hour is more difficult than peddling.
is it true that it will help with the practice ?

It won't completely disappear, but it will become better with time.

Keep shifting your weight, getting up once in a while, etc. If after a couple months of regular riding you still aren't comfortable, maybe your saddle just isn't right for you.

"It won't completely disappear, but it will become better with time"
is really quite a big relief.

I think Dr Deepak Rao was the most senior person completing the 200K ride. Well done doc. I was surprised with the energy that you rode.
Any objections? :P

Hehe, not like that. Just that he finished strong where many folks from 20-30 age group struggled.

Apologies to Doc

hehe, Rajesh started quoting age when a young whippersnapper [meant in a good way of course] like Sir Rupert came along. So, I'm doing the same thing, or rather Akshay is doing it for me

Actually sir rupert is not that young (just 5-6 years younger that rajesh?) when compared to real youngistans like Aman and Pankaj. But the dark lord darth rao is in a different league. My long term goal is that I should be able to ride as much and as strong as Darth rao does when I am his current age a decade from now :) .

This is one thing I don't understand... does it mean younger riders are supposed to be strong???? or is it a big shame for someone older to finish ahead??? In that case I should die of shame.... my ride partner is nearly 2 decades older than me and yet just as strong. why is there always comparisons here??? I don't know why are people far too occupied with what others are doing and how they ride or train or finish!!! and anything lower is looked down upon with shame!!! I guess this is one reason why Daily Mile is so engaging, cause it satisfies the desire of who's doing what. Anyway to each his own.
People will assume you're saving the planet and/or riding for a cause even if all you want to do is enjoy riding
