Does anyone have any feedback/review on Hercules Roadeo Turner?

I am looking at entry level bike (5-7k) range. I'll use it basically for occasional city riding, short touring (<25km) and exercise and may be off-trk riding once-in-a-bluemoon. Not used to cycling before much (n i'm 36 now .

Any othr option in that range? Want to keep the budget under 7K as just want to give it a try to cycling and then upgrade in 1-2 yrs.

Please go through this link first n see if that model is really suitable for you. I doubt if this model will be good for riding inside city.
If your budget is upto 7K go for hercules ACT100S.

Thanks Prithvi ! I have been going through the forum for last 2-3 days (and read the post you suggested couple of times). While I agree to all of that I wanted something in my budget (well my expectations from the bike in that range are not too high either) - just want something that can be ok to use for a yr or two.

@Rakesh:- Just back from visit to TI cycles, and my reaction was close to that of yours (well did not like ACT110/S much too). Going again in the evening to take another look @ ACT110S. ACT 110/S seems to be the most recommended bike in my budget, have seen people happy with BSA MACH as well (haven't seen 1 yet tho). I don't mind upgrading in 6 months to 25-30K one if cycling becomes my cup-of-tea !

Raja.. Don't fall for that bling. Its for boys. With this, the upgrade you are thinking of in 1-2years can become 1-2months if you find you like cycling. Otherwise you will never look at cycling again. In any case the investment is down the drain.

Consider the ACT110s as Prithvi suggested. The bikes in that series have many satisfied customers.

I don't think slick tires will be a problem unless you are looking to do some serious off-road trails. They are a lot better suited for city riding and may take a bit off road riding.

As a new rider (me), slim tyres are the best, they are light, reduced pedalling efforts makes u want to cycle more.
No issue on city roads with slims.
I would say, ride a slim & an MTB on a non-gear bike & you would see what u are comfortable with.

as per ur budget. i think u should definitely give the firefox axxis a look. theres a review on this forum by alaap. i too have one and its one of the best single speed mtb in the 5000-7000 budget.

I think I'll pick one from the list below. ACT 110s seems attratice @ that price. 110 is lucrative upgrade !

Well, I just came here to review the bike - Hercules Roadeo Turner - that I bought (yes should be done before the purchase, but what the heck ) and I must express the other side of the opinions expressed in this thread. The posters have just said it is junk or for the boys, but never bothered to go in the details why so.

I am pretty happy with Roadeo Turner; it has all the functions that I was looking for in an entry level bike- alloy body, 18 gears, revo shift gears, V brakes, front and rear suspension etc. I use it mostly for office commute on uneven roads and on slopes and it is worth the money. I am 37 and still manage to leave behind many bikers that I see on the road on this bike

About the thick tyres of this bike- given the condition of the roads of Bangalore, even a city ride is like off-roading But yes, I agree, it could do with slightly slimmer tyres.

I have been using it for almost a month now, no problem what-so-ever. The bike is light weight, gears are smooth and the suspension is nice, so less bumpy. The only tiny thing that is irritating is - no easy location to mount a water bottle holder because of the wires on the body. But then this is a real tiny problem.

It is only an entry level bike and you can get it cheap. If I stick to cycling, I plan to replace it in a year or two.

Why is the fact that it is categorised under "boys" such a big deal? I wanted to try an entry-level geared bike for the first time (before this I had a standard Ladybird that I hadnt used in 7 years... yes, I am a female and my parents got me a GIRL'S bike okay?). I wanted a nice enough cycle before I was experienced enough to make a good decision buying the more expensive ones. So I got the Roadeo Turner. I ride it everyday to the Institute, about 12 kms/day. I have put in almost a 1000 kms on that cycle in the past three months now, and I dont have any major problem with it. I have even biked across the city on the ring road flyovers. For people who are not sure about serious cycling and don't yet have the experience, yet want to get a nice enough cycle for themselves I would not hesitate to recommend this.

As far as we're concerned, the emphasis on "boys" is more for the age that it implies rather than the gender. You'd need the kind of heady optimism and youthful ignorance that screams "LOOK AT ME, I AM AWESOME" to buy a Roadeo Turner that only comes and (thankfully for most) goes with the 'teens.

As to why TI write what they write on their web-site, they're probably sexist pigs from the previous century. Funny how one can take offense to crappy advertising, but still like the crappy product, ain't it.

Hey i'm 13 and i don't buy bikes like rodeo turner. i'm buying a Gaint Revel 1d. You see some time back i used to ride a Hamilton disk demo, at that time i didn't know anything about these bikes, i used to think that my bike is a pro mtb and that it was capable of riding in the hills. On my birthday i decided to buy a A 300, after much research i understood bikes like A300 are not real mtbs. My point is that not many people know about these bikes they have to be more exposed, its natural for them to think bikes like rodeo turner are real mtbs.

Exactly the point I was trying to make. People do not know about bikes when they do decide to get one for serious riding. These bikes, being at the low price range, they offer a pretty good temptation as a safer bet to buy. At least, that's how it worked for me. I am now more aware of what I need and what I don't need so that when I actually get an upgrade bike I'll not end up paying for features I ain't going to use.

If there's any feature you are never going to have a use for, it's a rear suspension -- especially a crappy one like the Roadeo's. There are far better entry-level bikes at more affordable prices. A little research here can help prevent such (relatively) costly mistakes. If you are a beginner, a BSA Mach at half the price of the Roadeo is a much better introduction to cycling. The Rockrider 5.0 at 10K is even better value for money.

That's true but but as i said i did not know about this only after researching do you get to know about what are real mtbs and what are not.

That line, especially the last 'okay?' made me smile. You seem to be very annoyed that your parents got you a GIRL's bike. I suddenly remembered a female friend who wanted Royal En-field as her vehicle and her father denied. Finally she settled for Yamaha RX 100.

The issue with inexperienced rider is that 'usually' he/she goes for the most jazzy looking bike for the budget without understanding that 'you get what you pay for'. It is similar in music systems. Inexperienced buyer is more attracted towards the jazzy looks and multiple features rather than the main feature i.e.the sound quality.
By chance if someone has already bought this bike, I wouldn't frustrate him by telling all its issues but if some lucky person is asking in advance, I will definitely tell him/her to go for a simpler and standard geometry bike as the first entry level bike.
Yes, the Rodeo is like other bikes, you pedal and you go forward but the rider understands the difference only after comparing it with something else on various terrains, climbs etc.

As for the 'female' who seemed indignant that she was taken for a boy, well, it may have helped if she had a handle that's slightly more indicative of her femininity than 'Jack D'.
