42 x 23 will be a tough task for a 15-20km climb (atleast for me). Pace yourself accordingly!
Did you ask Prabodh about lower Chainrings or a different Crankset? I know you were looking to change at some point.

Yes. He has 53 39, but then that's the hollow crank which means a new bottom bracket also. The only catch being, the Italian thread. That he did not have. I had wanted a 25 or a 28 largest cog, but he did not have anything else. Crazy guy said he used to do that climb on a 42 21. He used to do Bombay Poona.

Hey Rajesh, nice account of your ride. 30+kmph with a 16% climb thrown in is to me, just a thought.
You tend to simplify your narration. Had it been Gautam or Pranav writing, we would probably cramped our legs just reading of your ride.

I am just not good with words! Is it boring to read? Infact I am considering buying a good helmet cam for some of my rides. Maybe it wil spice up things a little.

Not boring at all! I felt the writing was as fast-paced as the ride. We like to live vicariously, so more details you can throw in the better :D
Helmet cam would be a great idea.

What do you mean boring? Actually this reminds me of Chris Bonington's writing. He is the British Everest climber. He had this rambling kind of style of writing, and you would go on reading and only after you had completed a long section, would you realise that he was actually describing a life and death situation.

Here you are, writing about climbing a killer 16% slope, and how do you describe it? "I kept a constant pace on the final 12-16% to the top and saw the other rider getting dropped by some 50m." You expect that to give readers goosebumps? Come to think of it, you don't. I guess you enjoy the ride and when you quickly describe how it went, you visualise the scenes, and that makes you feel good. So, you think your writing was nice.

Hey Pranav, why don't you try and describe this same scene in your style? By the way, is Gautam away? He seems to be not posting for some time??

When were in a process of upgrading Prabu's bike & Prabodh had only one 8 speed 12-23, Prabu cribbed, that he again had to compromise. But then he later after Aarey he realized that even a difference of two teeth can make a huge difference. Now we both have similar ratios 42-23 & 42-24. Legs do burn at this ratio don't know how will climbing 15-20kms feel. But I guess changing the crank set means not only the BB but also the Front DR.

But then its also fun climbing on them, & people have done it earlier & so can we, It only translates to more training :P. & Soon as I'm in shape we'll be doing those climbs.
People will assume you're saving the planet and/or riding for a cause even if all you want to do is enjoy riding

Helmet cam is surely on its way. But what kind of details would interest you from my rides?

About how the guy behind you was frothing as you broke away. About how the water splashed onto your glasses as you tried to drink while steering one handed on a descent going at 90 kmph.

Just things that make things sound more achy and discomforty. :D

Sure. Here goes.

I saw a slope with a 16% from afar. So I hitched a ride to the top on a passing truck. Once at the top, I gave the trucker a 50 for his help and took a good look around at the breathtaking views. Gusts of air stirred my scanty hair to life as I mounted the bike. But I quickly put a stop to that my donning my helmet and set off for a white-knuckled, screaming descent downhill. I think I dropped my intestines somewhere along the way and my ears are still ringing from the sound of the wind in my ear. I don't think I'll be doing it ever again.

I could never write such things, yesterday it was me leading the pace, tomorrow it could be me getting dropped! It is pain for all on a climb. There is always payback time in cycling. Make friends if you are a cyclist otherwise it could be a lonely life out there.

Heh heh, add heart-stoppy and gut-wrenchy to the list.

So? When you get dropped, you write about how you frothed and grimaced and nearly lost consciousness trying to catch up with the hot rod up ahead.
