Time to inspire each other - Biking to Work Stats

Postby sharadaprasad » November 7th, 2008, 3:28 pm

Hi,

From past two months I have been biking to my office - from Akshayanagar to Indiranagar. Sometimes the road (I hv to climb upto 60meters), traffic, pollution etc. irritate me and discourage me from biking... But still I make it a point to commute at least twice a week to work...

I wanted to derive inspiration from all of you here, and take my commuting to the next level. From 2009, I intend to commute only by my bicycle... Here are my current biking stats, can you guys start posting yours and help motivate others in the team?

Distance - 31km per day
Number of days in a month - 5 to 8
Major Jns - Bommanahalli, St. Johns, Ejipura
Major Climbs - On my way back from Indiranagar, entire Inner Ring Road scares me...
Future plans - to commute to work almost everyday by bike...

Feel free to change the format and post your stats....

*Bike=Bicycle

Sharada

For the last two weeks (thats when I bought my bike), I have been cycling to work.

Distance: 16 km (to and fro)
Number of days = No of working days in a month :)
Major Jns - Hafizpet flyover, Kothaguda jn, Hitech
Major Climbs - Hafizpet flyover is an okay climb but the real tough ones are near Oracle building and Cyber gateway. But road bike is managing alright on the Hyd roads alright so far.
Future Plans - Continue commuting to office and join the century mile club on weekend rides.

Happy riding,
Venky

Bommanahalli!!! Cool. I start from Akshayanagar near Begur. I take the same route as you. My house is little before urs and my office, a little after urs (Indiaranagar). Someday we should try to wear some cool t-shirt, cycle together and promote biking. What say Manoj?

Postby oldManBiker » December 5th, 2008, 5:38 pm

Have started biking to work yesterday. My company moved closer to home, bringing down my round trip commute from 50kms to 12 kms! Here are some details

Two days [used to bike twice a week last year when round trip commute was 25 kms]

Bike - BSA Mach-1 [and sometimes might use my Merida Crossway 5V]
City - Pune
Distance -12 kms for round trip
Number of days in a month - all working days [that's the plan, let's see how it goes]
Major Jns - Senapati Bapat road, Karve road, SP college chowk
Major Climbs - Senapati Bapat road [khinda]
Future plans - Bike to work all work days of the week

I have already been asked by two collegues at work about my plans. One of them owns a Trek 4300 and said he would start biking atleast once a week. That's good! We need more people on cycles than motorcycles and cars.

Nirvana will be achieved once I can make the first month on my bike uninterrupted.
