WE ARE GREEN NOW - Hercules Rodeo Turer 21Speed

Postby nair.devan » February 27th, 2012, 2:47 pm

Hello Bikers,

Two more bikers in the forum and we are green now.

Our purpose to buy a bike were,

1) Exercise
2) Grocery shopping
3) Intermittent morning rides
4) Weekend city rides etc

Out budget was in between 5000 - 6000/-

We have visited Raja Cycle Mart (Next to Townhall, KT Circle) and bought
Hercules Rodeo Turer 18 Gear bike. We were planning to buy Hercules AXN DX,
but, we were not satisfied about the breaks. Especially, when a heavy
person like me (90+kg) sits on the bike.

So, we have decided to go for *Rodeo Turer.*

*Total cost paid - 6500/-*

*Specifications*

1) Steel frame
2) Front and read suspension (We really did not want rear suspension. We
also set our expectation that, we will loose the front suspension soon. If
that, happens, we will replace it with another fort with no suspension.
Rear suspension we can ignore now because, there is nothing apart from a
spring.
3) 18 Gears- Shimano with Revoshift. I felt it very comfortable while
riding.
4) Aluminum Rims
5) Straight handle bar
6) Steel mud guards (front and back)
7) Rear carrier (It is very strong and can hold weight up to 30 Kilos)
8) Friction free cables for breaks and gears

Over all, the bike looked good for us. We have bought 2 cycles with gray
and black combination. Raja Cycles gave us a bell and a cable lock for
free. Please note that, there are 2 type of cable locks available one is
poor in quality. So, be careful when you select the freebies.

It was little late for us to reach home as we had some personal
requirements. So, we thought we would transport the cycle by Auto from KR
Circle to Yechwantpur. Autowala asked for 300/ cycle. Meter charge from
Yeshwantpur to KR Circle is 100/- sharp. We were not ready to pay extra
200/- just or transportation.

Honestly, we were doubt about riding the bike till Yeshwantpur as we did
not tough any bikes for 10 - 12 years.

WE DECIDED NOT TO GIVE UP!!!

We rode the bike from KR Circle to Yeshwantpur and that we had to spent
were price for two tender coconuts. Initially, I felt very tough to move
the cycle ahead. But, with the easy shifting of gears, later I felt it very
easy.

One the way back to Yeshwantpur, we saw another 3 - 4 bikers riding, near
to the Windsor Manor hotel,

I live in mathikere (Behind Movenpik). If any one is riding in the morning
between 5.30 - 7, please do let me know.

Questions :

1) The seat is so small for my b**t. So, it pains some times. I want to
change the seats to bigger ones. Does anyone have any suggestion ?
2) Is there any specific things we need to take care on Hercules Rodeo
Turer 18Speed, please do let us know.

Thanks,
Dev

Guys,
Please take a look at rockrider series/schwinn bikes. Still if you wanna go desi consider bsa mach or like wise dont go for fancy twin suspension.

I'll say you're green! Okay, no more facetious remarks -- go out there and enjoy your ride. People may tell you that you could have put in a few thousand more and got a much better bike, and while that's true, there's no reason why the Roadeos shouldn't deliver the goods if you have modest expectations from your rides. Keep at it!

Technically, the saddle is only supposed to support your seat-bones. Does it do that well? Some pain is to be expected initially, you just have to HTFU. It should go away in a few weeks as you get used to cycling. If not, then here a various possibilities to look at:
1. Most likely - cycling with cotton/cloth shorts over long distances - sweat and friction causes sores. Thicker the cloth, graver the problem.
2. Your seat too low or posture to upright - means too much weight is centered on the butt instead of being distributed over saddle, pedals and handle.
3. May be the saddle is truly unsuitable and you need an upgrade. But bigger and plushier saddles are usually a bad idea.

you could identify the "poor quality" locks but failed when it came to the entire bike.. :( ...
ironically at this point of time you could have landed with a Rockrider 5.0 for a meagre 1000 INR extra but would have made a world of a difference..

the best i can say is.. ride it well now and i hope you ve bought a helmet..

No sarc.

I have had a bicycle rather like this turner - birthday present from the wife sourced from Lakshmi cycle importing co Secunderabad exactly 14 years ago. I commuted on it to work for about two years (July 1998 - Sep 2000) and as full and total no motorized transport solution for 5 - 6 mo in 2000). August 21, 2000 the city got 24 cm of rain in 24 hours, I was in Chennai then and the cycle never really recovered from that flooding and soaking, till it was revived for Mr D on his birthday in 2009 (there is a pic in there too in the picasa link on venky's blog). It is now with the watchman's son. It is not my favorite cycle, nor one I would recommend to anyone but it worked and is still running on school trips in a ss avatar
