Buying a Garmin is not shit. You will find that out sooner or later. To be able to afford is where Guadzilla can help you :D

Subscribed.

In the same place. Might have thought hard and pulled the trigger at $200 for the Garmin 500, but $300 with HRM & Cadence is pushing it :-(

yaar, decathlon sells a simple HRM watch for 1000 bucks. I bought mine 2 years back. (basic colors model)

but no data logging, no averages etc. That costed some 3k back then and had digital (IIRC) straps.

6k for an analog watch HRM is overkill. analog coded or uncoded?

try this - looks as good in specs. real life quality may not be as sexy as polar for all i know

http://www.lifemojo.com/shop/kalenji-300-coded-25634706

i have the uncoded zimble one. it went crazy one day. i was feeling like 120 bpm and it showed 216 :p been sensible since then

Save money, buy the Edge. My story went like this:

1) "Who needs a computer? Not I!"

2) "I need only speed and distance, who needs HR and cadence?"
Buys basic computer.

3) "I need HR, but nothing else."
Buys basic Polar HRM.

4) "I want cadence."
Buys slightly better computer.

5) "I want elevation, average cadence and some logging."
Starts looking at slightly better computers. Stops. Wisely spends more money than he can almost not afford on the Edge 500. No regrets. Is loving Strava and the comparison of performance from one ride to the next. Loves the way it can be simply transferred from one bike to another and that it holds data for so many rides because on the old computer, he'd always forget to log a ride before resetting. Laps, intervals and workouts also proved very useful. Elevation data invaluable.

You're probably right. Damnit! :?

Is the 310XT just as good? I like the idea of something I can wear as a watch as well. Also do these things have decent software for the Mac? Normally these things come with half baked software that is obviously a Windows port and which makes you want to throw the device against a wall.

Annnyhoo... Looks like I need to make more money.

Anyone want to hire a righter/editur? I rites the gud inglis/Me edit u long time.

Hah! Should've guessed that someone who's upset by weasel words is a wrighter/editeur! People need to understand how many hours of a sub's life goes on doing research that a butt-lazy writer should have done himself/herself and bypasses just by throwing in a convenient word or phrase. Yes, that was Hits, not me, who said "buy the best you can almost not afford".

310 is definitely more versatile. You can use it for running, for cycling, for swimming. However, the 500 has the benefit of more fields of display, so you can see a lot more stuff on the main screen when you are cycling - it is a better cyclocomputer, for sure.

And yes, Garmin Training Center for Mac is very decent.

Ascent for Mac and Sporttracks for Win. I hate the GTC software.

Unnamed sources tell me that live puppies are delish. Specially with a little HP sauce.

Two things.
A.. Health kart are mega spammers but the items n prices are genuine.
B. These items are down slippery slope that ends in a garmin edge 500

Can the Garmin Edge 500 be used for running too? Is that any Heart rate monitor that can be used with both running and cycling? How about if one just gets the transmitter to use with a sports-tracker phone? Should one get a non-coded one?

No love for the Garmin Forerunner 305? If you keep an eye out for it, you can sometimes find it for around 120 USD on amazon.com. Been a happy user for a while now (running and cycling).

Garmin edge 500 can be used for running as well, if the heart rate monitor strap is ANT+ compatible it can be used with the edge
