Did I Bonk!!! Or something else???

Postby kk27 » March 23rd, 2012, 11:27 am

Bonk!!! I had forgotten this word & how it feels!!!

We had an off today (thanks to Gudi Padva), So decided to ride 50-70kms or so & the next 2 days with centuries. Got going as per the usual (cycling)mornings. Had decided to to turn into Godhbunder road which has small climbs(inclines really) turn around near the creek & then back on my fav route NH8 to make this into a 65-70k ride.

I didn't feel any issues when starting expect that my HR was quite higher than usual! when spinning fast onthe highway I realized that my breathing is also very heavy. I was going well like usual on the first inclines till my turn around point, post which is a serious incline, I went up very well but just as I finished it my head started spinning while coming downhill. I stopped & was feeling very dizzy. I didn't sit though, I was wary of it!! I felt if I did... I may not get back up!! it was as if all energy was sucked out from me & strangely my stomach was like a burning furnace in hell!! I rested for 5-6mins but I was still much the same. I thought the best thing to do is to get back on the bike & get going. A few mins on the bike I was feeling fine... so much that I felt absolutely normal on the next incline! yes HR was still high & breathing still heavy, as a caution I cut the ride plan short & turned back home.

On my way back I was laughing at myself thinking that I bonked. But piecing the things back I'm not sure if I did really bonk, probably the antics of an acidic stomach!! had to drink bucket loads to curb the acidity, Though not sure if an acidic stomach can play such tricks? anyone else ever experienced this??

In this grueling summer its best to carry a bottle filled with electral ORS water rather than plain water. This year looks like the heat has started too early.

Acidity !!! Happened to me once after the Uttan ride. I skip the espresso hence, and settle for a cold drink.

Don't worry, shit happened... nothing more to it.

BTW I am sure you didnt skip dinner yesterday night...right?
No one gives it to you. You have to take it.

Not a bonk. If you had nobles, you wouldn't have felt better without a lot to eat or drink.

Your HR can run high and you can actually feel good for the first part of a ride if you're coming down with something. Keep an eye out for cold/flu symptoms. Popping zinc supplements early can help a lot.

I don't mind coming to work, but this 6-hour wait to get back on the bike is irritating.

well the symptoms do look like I had a heat stroke!!! But then not sure how after few mins I was able to be back on the bike & felt a lot better!!!

The next day I & Prabu did a 100 without any hitch & it was fairly hot & fair bit inclines as well, On Sunday we rode another 70k (though it was a cooler day in comparison).

So I was more confused on what really happened to me on friday?
