Goods in foreign parcels fall prey to India Post

I have seen what is happening inside the sub-foreign post office on Museum Road on many many occasions. I had to go there on many occasions to follow up on packages I was to receive, but held up at this hell-hole. First, they mishandle the packages, throwing them down as if with a vengeance; the packages burst open sending the contents flying on many occasions. If it doesn't break open immediately, then it will surely at one of the handling points down the chain. The packages there are not properly stored or stacked. They are just strewn around without any proper tracking mechanism. Normal mail, priority, and express are all mingled and treated with the same "urgency".........

Pathetic :(

Sorry for my ignorance, but UPS and other couriers are private operators, so... They do not enter the Indian Postal Service at any time, right?

Yups...but if someone wants to save up a bit on postage and uses normal shipping options then anything coming from usa will come thru usps and that will have to go thru indian postal service.

I got my shipment delivered today. It reached Bangalore on 17th, and all later delay it at the hands of IPS.

6620.86 + 1166 customs :). I went to the office and picked it up. Found a note at the house mentioning the customs amount.

How long before websites stop sending stuff to India/stop honouring replacement policies/add huge surcharges?

It's already starting. Love2Pedal has stopped. Aerotech has stopped.

PBK stopped long ago after multiple lost parcels. Just hope that the courier services will continue.

Hi

would this be the order of preference

Regular post <<< EMS speed post/ Express Mail <<< DHL/FedEx etc

If I order bibs from love2pedal they will be despatched through ExpressMail for + $40.

PI bibs via Evans delivered through DHL seem to be a better option

(The last thing I ordered from Evan's arrived through DHL IIRC (that was Nov 10 - but there is no option to choose shipping method - any recent experience))

While I toss coins and consult my astrologer what's the skinny on this Express Mail - do they get lost in transit or are they as reliable as a DHL type courier

Lst few experiences with Evans showed that a larger order, about 150 pounds was by courier, and smaller orders of around 50-60 [mine as well as Arvinds] was thru mail. Don't know if this is always the case.

Like I said CRC and DHL seem the best option. You can squeeze in a lot of stuff for 20 pounds shipping.

I find it cheaper and less hassle to send everything to Italy. And then an annual trip to Italy to pick all my stuff. No way I am going to ship a Dogma to India or SL.
