These prices are simply crazy and market breaking. It beats me how Trek and now Giant have raised their prices while Trek has infact been cutting equipment as well.

I feel for the dealers - its a terribly uphill task to sell quality bikes with such prices.

Yes! It's really sad to see the prices going north. Seems like this is the best time to increase prices by 10% to 30% on some bicycle brands and models, and blame it all on the Rupee vs. Dollar.

On a serious note, the importers claim that the FOB price increase by the manufacturer and increase in Duty by 14% in India is the main culprit.

@ hitanshu: Thanks for empathizing with the dealers :)

The next 18 months will be like this wonly. Steeply depreciating rupee. Dealers who now stock the pre Rs 45/$ bikes are gonna have fun marking up and making a clean rip off. It will make sense to get a better bike from abroad if ur on a trip to the US/UK et all.

Not sure how this would be possible for older stocks of bicycles. The prices of 2011 or earlier models predominantly remains unchanged and the MRP's are universally known. Actually some dealers are trying hard to slash down the prices of the earlier models, thus giving some super deals to buyers.

Your scenario will work if a month or two later, the MRP's of the bikes were to change drastically (upward revision of prices) for the 2012 models, then it would benefit the dealers having bought the bicycles on old MRPs and trying to sell at the renewed MRPs.
