and the other 29,999 who will die this year ?

for all i know they may not all be suicidal and longing for a painful death.

I remember reading that rabies incubates for as long as 1 year. My current understanding (and I have to read up again) that the transmission of disease could happen from the smallest of skin punctures from a "play bite". that from an animal that does not look like an enraged Stephen Cujo and presents no symptoms

On that understanding, when Mr D was bitten we did not wait to see if the dog was rabid and got him treated with that 1 immediate shot and 3 follow ups. That was several years back, it was quite expensive - more than roadster would have costed. Worse there was also uncertainty about the vaccine because it could have been spurious or non active because it was not stored properly. That was not fun I can assure you.

Clearly there is something else wrong here besides your logic. Who is responsible for that diseased stray. Who is to either kill the bloody beast (like you would a man eater) or make sure it was vaccinated/ immunized if it is to run around where you live ? The feeking clueless animal lovers who will protest all/ any control ? Meh! (Which is not to say that the bitten person should not care for him/ herself.)

I am no animal lover, given a chance, choice and legal permission I will kill each and every dog with my own teeth, pet or stray alike, who chase me or threaten me.
I have full faith in Indian medical treatment.

Did you watch the much-hyped apna aamir khan crusade on sunday? Medical Council of India is in a mess.

^ There may be commission ladder system, but I don't doubt the doctor's ability to cure people.
And from what I hear from my friends in healthcare system not all of it was true; Aamir needs to get his facts right before finger pointing on such sensitive issues.

Btw, I have seen worst cases abroad. The crows will always be black no matter where you go.

I do too (and not only because I have to) (assuming you meant treatment by qualified allopathic doctors and not some jhaad phoonk mumbo jumbo type rubbish)

you are dependent on random shit like the chemist not switching off the refrigerator to save on electricity bills or the frequent power cuts not rendering them ineffective etc. Very vague memory but we were also rather worried about spurious/ fake drugs around that time because of a story in India Today or Outlook

you have to take your chances. That is India tax.

I agree with Gr here. Most chemists switch off their refrigerators to save on electricity bills. What is the guarantee that the "Cold Chain" is not broken anywhere. Here in Mumbai I guess only the 24hr chemists and the large hospitals keep the cold chain intact. In fact in the hospital where I work the refrigerator temp is checked during every shift change (ie 3 times a day) and plus we have a generator backup even though Bombay has no load shedding. The generator is run every Sunday for atleast 2 hrs to keep it running since we have power cuts once in blue moon.

Being a dog in our country is not easy. The first thing most people do when they see a mangy stray dog is lift a stone to throw at it, a reaction that, sources say, is remarkably similar to when they see a neta. Well, I've got news for you friends. That dog may bite you in the butt, but it won't rob you of your savings. I believe these cunning canines have managed to keep their names out of the recent scams. Must have bribed the media.
"Oh, the irony.
really ?

India is a very handicapped friendly country and treats the disabled well ? I'll repeat it thrice and try to believe it

It is also true that the blind are only suffering because some society did not allow dogs.

Meh.

Reverse story about how kids in a particular locality fight to save the stray dogs being put to death by a scheming politician

Same here. Sometimes I bark back at them and they STFU! :D

The worst thing you can do is speed up in front of them and entice them to give chase.
