I meant golden retriever - hoped it would help in understanding why my dog is submissive. Sorry 'gr'.

(Sorry for any facetiousssnessness, but I think we sometimes (me included) burden ourselves with the idea that we must "solve" these problems on a large scale with our discussions in these pages.)

My goldie is a bit of a bully with other dogs. He charges every stray dog that he doesn't "know", although he never bites or attacks them. If the stray stands its ground, he just stands nearby and barks at it.

Once, I had taken him for a trip to another part of the island and this stray dog came charging at him - he was so surprised by that behavior that he just stopped and watched it come. It peeled off after a bit. Being twice the size of the local strays helps, I think (although, like me, he loses out in the W/kg equation). :)

Back to what to do when dogs chase - I just yell at them in a loud, deep voice and keep going, slowing down a little if need be.

My Great Dane loves to play with other dogs be it strays or other pets. He just rushes to play with them but on seeing his size other dogs feel threatened more so the owners.

Calvin rarely barks. He hasn't barked in over a month and he's always wagging his tail like crazy at other dogs and lying low. His testicles haven't descended yet either, which, his vet said, is strange. Dude doesn't eat much these days and I'm worried about it :(

How old is Calvin?

Frodo didn't really start to think of himself a Boss Dog until he turned about 4 or so. Every so often, he tries to bully Sam, who outweighs him by 10kg and for a while Sam lets him, and then lays down the law.

He's 9 months old and weighs about 20 kg. Is Sam a goldie too?

Nah, Sam's a 45kg Labrador. Frodo is 5 1/2 and weighs 35kg.

Whats the ruckus for? Really a big bow wow for one compared to the >55000 cases per year in india that sadly dont make it in life, forget making it to national news. Im sure the puppy was used to eating parle-g and hence objected being fed british biscuits.......

We got chased by a dog for 4km today, and mostly uphill too. Bloody amazing stamina of the dog. Dog belonged to the lady who rented us the cottage, and I think he was pretty disappointed that we didn't 'play'.

okay, now a rather silly question. what's the best way to carry my el cheapo dog whistle? (its a fairly compact/small thingmajig)

I was thinking of a neck strap but that might be more painful on a regular basis - a literal pain around the neck. that said, i dont want to spend 2 min fiddling to use it either. Ideas?

Dog whistle? To call them? Scare them off? Wha?

Neck strap seems like the best solution for a whistle...
