The day judicial system starts working for a common man in your backyard everything will fall in place. Right now your own lives is as bad as the dogs in your metros with no street hygiene in any of the suburbs.

Yes this is Bang on. but I say this is just not judicial rather a civic failure.

I'm bringing Cats or motorists not to say Stray Dogs are necessary for the society, I'm bringing them for a Yard Stick comparison. And this is the reason I Expounded on things that we do, cause we too believe that without Strays a lot many issues can be addressed, but that doesn't qualify to mindlessly kill them.

My question from beginning has been just this... Is mindless eradication of everything which poses a risk or causes a problem a right solution to it? There's always a better solution one just needs to find it & it's possible only with a level head.

It is not called mindless eradication. It is called responsible controlling. It helps their own quality of lives and others living around them in a civil society. Not asking for culling of the entire species. The fact that they are in such number roaming the streets is already our own mistakes.

And those loving them have done nothing to control their growth or improve the quality of lives. They are all walking around the city eating around garbage and posing threats. And that is great?

Just answer this why do you think you don't find 70,000 dogs in Rome, Paris or Moscow. They are all animal haters?

Sort of again what I have already said earlier. Need to get out of here :) Ciao! Again..

A simple solution: if there is really a problem dog you know of who is dangerous then inform an active NGOs in your area, "Ahimsa" for Bombay, they will also sterilize them.

More I read on this topic, I get a feeling that "killing" has been taken in literal sense. Like someone said before, I do not think anyone here want to get all those strays culled. I for one am fully against it. But I definitely do believe strays are nuisance, at least where I live. For some reasons, I noticed cycling has been unnecessarily dragged into it. If you come to Poonam Nagar, you will find people walking with a stick in hand in the evenings and early mornings. Kids no long play in the courtyard or building compound for the fear of getting bitten.

This discussion will go on forever. Sterilization is way but I doubt it has in anyway helped resolve the issue (again at Poonam Nagar and JVLR). You can see at least 10-15 puppies roaming around.

As for adoption, come on accept it. Not many folks will adopt a mongrel. It will not to add the magic of BB/Iphone, SUV, Spiderman sunglasses and other fashion accessories.

An eradication should be last resort when nothings' worked? Sterilization can & will bring the populus down, problem is allocated fund is being used for MLAs dogs :)

Adopting strays is a rare occurance, SPCA finds it highly difficult to get abandoned pets get readopted. Rak like I said you can inform Ahimsa about Dogs who are very aggressive, they will take care of it.

How many will they take care of when they are all in packs chasing people after dark hours? And that too city wide. You think we are talking about 10 dogs?

Did you not read the article above that said even the civic authorities ran out of space and had to let all of them go. ::cussing

Ok here's a nice example of what KK is saying. A few months back in Koregaon Park, Pune , the municilapity van came to catch stray dogs. All the civil society dog-lovers stopped them. These guys complaint and the incident came in Pune mirror. The municipality guys had to back down. 2 months later a dog went rabid, bit 17 people due to which a maidservant died. Pune mirror did a nice job that day. They printed the old report and the latest news side by side. I doubt those dog-lovers who had stopped PMC from doing their work earlier would have even felt any guilt.

So KK your intentions are good but what's wrong in taking removing these animals from our streets in the first place? I don't hate dogs but i am not comfy with canines running around me in the city.

I have somehow felt that identifying and isolating aggressive ones and putting them to sleep is the solution. Man-eating tigers and other animals are put down. So why not aggressive dogs ?

Flame me now but this is my opinion and I stand by it.

I have no problem if you pick and quote whatever I have to say just for the sake of doing it and of course like you said adding smileys to conclude. If you read (or like to read rather) you will notice that I said kill the aggressive ones and not the entire species. May be spend some more afternoon lunch hours to read whatever I wrote.

English is a silly language and like I said, internet views can be misleading.

"However harsh, sick, inhumane, disgusting it may sound, I for one definitely believe in having strays / feral terminated. Aggressive ones need to be put down" - it means cull the aggressive ones only. Unless of course if it can be interpreted in some other way.

^^ Absolutely, I mean in my neighbourhood dogs f%% king each other and giving birth to more strays is the norm here. Sterilization will reduce this menace by almost 50% IMHO. And does anyone have the heart to kill stray puppies? No it has not resolved the issue cause the local municipal staff are worser than the stray dogs themselves. Forget SPCA et all this is all for show in the big cities like mumbai/delhi. I doubt whether the SPCA in hyderabad/bangalore/belgaum or even smaller towns give a shit. So the aam junta either has to kill the rabid/non rabid stray themselves or risk getting bitten and die a painful death. I have a family so if I have to choose between giving biscuit to a stray dog and making friends with it and there is no guarantee it may bite and see my kids getting bitten for nothing just because a few animal lovers out there will just shout from their comfy roof tops but will not do anything worthwhile, I am going to kill that stray then and there. Period.

Rakesh - usually the overly aggressive ones caught by Ahimsa are put to sleep (literally with a high sleep dosage).

@ Punerider - like said earlier, most loose sight on both sides. The lovers there didn't take time to see if there was a genuine complaint, the municipality comes in action only after a complaint. Irrational behaviour is usually the issue, one side wants everybody put down the other side have a problem even with sterilization (can you beat that!), so result most often is a stale mate.

Talking about few a mindless lovers who even object to sterilization!!! giving weird logic of reproduction is a need of life etc etc, some have issues with the cut in the ear (which is a way of marking the Dog as sterile).

-----

Have you taken the pain to inform any of these agencies? or are you forming a perception on hear-say? Why not try a few NGOs, I'm sure there must be one in hyderabad for Dogs, I'm sure it'll be a little lesser effort than killing.

you guys know that you cannot just a kill a dog (any animal with a monetary value more than 10 INR) on the road JLT ? 10,000 INR AND 5 years. Yes that includes running over with a car too. And that's not because of "animal lovers" (snicker) but because the law says so.

I fail to understand the point of fighting like dog in this thread, unless some responsible authority is also on board here reading the arguments and can take some action.

-----

Whom should we contact to complain about aggressive dog?
What's the procedure to contact, complain and make sure the dog is take away from the street?

I come across a few regulars when I ride in the morning and it would be nice to see these dogs go away for safety of all.
