query on royal mail and evanscycles

Postby sanjayc » July 27th, 2012, 10:10 pm

Hi,
When we get stuff through royal mail from UK ( evanscycles) , is it delivered home or do we have to collect from post office ( in case of customs) ?

How many days does it take to reach India ( I am in chennai )?

Thanks
Sanjay

Always delivered to your home/office or whatever shipping address you specify during checkout. You'll find it in the post office only if the postman visits your door and no one's home to pick it up. Post offices wait ~7 days before returning it to the sender.

That depends on how expensive your item is. In my experience, the cheaper packages (say worth <2k INR) were delivered within a week and the more expensive ones took between 15 to 30 days for delivery. In most cases, the delays are due to customs. Evans also use a courier service for the more expensive items, who pay customs on your behalf and then collect it during delivery. For items shipped via royal mail, I've never paid a customs tax -- others on this forum may have different experiences here.

But, please don't complain to Evans about delays -- the delays are almost always due to Indian customs (regardless of royal mail/courier). More complaints from India will make Evans stop shipping to India altogether.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. Do they offer any way to upgrade to a shipping service with tracking option? I did not see any option to upgrade to ups.

Yesterday i got my saddle bag from Evans. This is reshipment after the first one lost in transit. Post office delivered it to me but they checked with me one day before. This was due to i had to pay 230 for customs.

You don't have option to upgrade shipping. Rather buy at CRC.

So what did you buy, and were you charged customs?

I ordered an adjustable stem from playgroundonline.com (an Indian site) on 1st August. Got a confirmation yesterday that they have "received" the order and will ship in next 2-3 days. So much for ordering from a local website, I thought the total time taken would be 2-3 days.
