Training and Nutrition in general and for Cycling

Postby sunster » June 16th, 2008, 11:49 am

Hi all,

was wondering whether anyone here maintains a specific diet or training program and whether it positively affects their biking performance. I bought myself a new Merida Sub40D 2 weeks ago and I haven't used it yet because A) Its raining. The bike is in my house now and once taken out, it cant be taken inside again. Im looking for a good lock for the bike and till then it stays at home.
B) Im scared that with a bodyweight of 130 Kgs, what if I break something.

in any case... I have started with a very strict training and nutrition regime. Since my roots were bodybuilding and track and field, i'm trying to get back in shape.
I observed a positive gain in endurance while I do circuit training with the change in nutrition. I need to have 7 meals a day which comprises also of low carb Meal Replacements and Whey Protein. Since adding these two elements (upping my protein intake) I find workout recovery to be faster and my stamina increasing.

I wanted to clarify one thing from the experts and experienced here. Will I destroy my Bike if I ride it with my bodyweight (130 Kg). In the Bike Manual, they say that the Max weight with rider and luggage should be 120Kg. will 10 Kgs more break it?

Thanks,

Sunny

Hello Sunster,
I ride a lot and I follow a strict nutrition daily also.It has successfully worked for me over the years helping to lose weight and consistently improve my performance on the bike. I observed that your interest is still to maintain that weight but to get fit for your sport which is bodybuilding and track and field. here are some thoughts of mine but keep in mind they are cycling specific. feel free to write to me.

One important reason is you don't want to put weight. An ideal weight for a cyclist is around 150-165 pounds.
Thanks,

Sunny

I always recommend everyone interested in nutrition or weight loss or gain to consult a doctor or dietician before bringing about major changes! PLEASE DONT GO TO YOUR NEIGHBOURHOOD DOCTOR, I KNOW THEM AND THEIR ATTITUDE. GO TO SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS SPORTS!!!
Please don't save humanity. The planet will thank you.
