Alternative to Red Bull - Tzinga!

Postby hitanshu » July 24th, 2012, 11:04 am

Just wanted people's feedback regarding http://tzinga.in/

I have used it often in office to beat the post-lunch lethargy and pep myself up. Dunno about energy but it sure takes away the lethargy. I started using it as a much cheaper alternative to red bull (think 20 vs 95 .. NO contest!).

I am now beginning to consider whether its worthwhile using something like this on rides. Thoughts? Any other BZer whose used it. I'm getting a bit bored with the tang, gatorade and the bananas. I'm sure someone here has some deeper nutritional angle on it and I'd be thankful to hear that.

Hey Hits,
The website looks awesome, will definitely give it a try this time when I come down to India
BTW here I use 100 plus.. and isotonic drink, I found it to be quite good in replinishing the salts lost during heavy physical activities

No deeper nutritional insight to add but, fwiw, this year the chaps at FRIO support BBCh by setting up a counter where they distribute biscuits, short eats, gatorade and some tzinga to riders. Nobody's objected to the Tzinga so far :)

Hitanshu, can you click the 'Nutrition Facts' label and post here?
I'd like to know the sugar content.

Dunno about Tzinga because your pic does not show the contents, but I did look up Red Bull and it looks like a complete rip off to me. Some one please tell me if there is ANY nutrition in that?

Just drink coffee! :) Anything red bull/diet coke is just caffeine + sugar. Coffee eliminates sugar.

On other topic, you wont have after lunch lethargy, if you eat less carbs :) Trust me.

If i was thinking and writing so much about food and calories (as you are in above blog post), the first thing I'd do is to stay away from such drinks.

I use one packet on 400 and 600km brevets for some caffeine in the middle of the night, keeps me awake for 4hrs.

Sometime back I googled "DIY energy drink". And this here was in the top 10 results:

Basically, iced tea.

Thanks guys!

Rpok - Of course, in office i have the espresso as far as possible. This is like once/twice a week only.

deepsan - thanks!! Those are the kinda details i wanted.

biozen - interesting. I can tell you that NESTEA is completely crappy for the same purpose. Like absolutely terrible. I would rate it one-tenth as useful as Tang or the good old sugarcane juice you get around Delhi!!

With all due respects let me state my experience as a person who thrives on loads of rice/dal for lunch and dinner:
1. Have a proper/long sleep the night before.
2. On Days I do (1) above, I do not get any drowsiness after lunch at office. The step (1) has also made my afternoon cup of plain black tea redundant.
3. Check the ventilation/HVAC air flow at home/office repsectively. If there is some good air circulation I feel ok. At home after heavy luch I doze off in no time if I keep all the windows closed.
4. Oh I forgot to add I always start the day with a fruit mostly apple/mango/guava depending on seasons. A drink of tang also adds to the energy levels.
Just my 2 cents.

Very true on this single aspect. Changing my life from a 1-2am sleeper (and a 630am riser) to a 5am (or earlier) riser has completely transformed my life.

I don't need to get through as many cups of coffee as I used to, in the past. Daytime sleepiness was a major issue earlier - no more. Now only after a good heavy meal, and often just a bit of lethargy - as opposed to overpowering sleep earlier.
