BRI wireless computer installation process

Postby borntoride » February 23rd, 2012, 6:06 pm

Hello Fellas,

I recently got TREK 3700 and for accessories I bought a new BRI Wireless computer.
I read the manual and installed it. But for some reasons it does not work. (does not count distance or speed, only shows time :( ) It came with a magnet, Wirless sensor and a screen. Does anyone have this peice of equipment and have any tips for me. I am not sure where I am going wrong.
I am in Trivandrum and the bike and accessories was shipped by my friends from mumbai. They checked it and it was working the time they bought.

I suspect the wireless sensor has to be linked to the device ..just like when you do bluetooth search. I remember someone had some issue getting the garmin set up. The device just would not detect the cadence sensor. In the end it had to locate the sensor by doing some king of search operation.

these devices don't need any complicated linking. The sensor/transmitter just needs to be within range of the cyclo-comp/receiver.
Check for alignment issues. Make sure Batteries are OK. Check if a little piece of plastic is inserted between battery and its contact in the sensor case (disables and conserves battery in the duration from factory shipping to customer installation).

do you have the manual ?

There could be two issues:
1) the transmitter(and sensor) not finding the head unit (display)
2) the magnet being improperly aligned with respect to the transmitter. in this case it wouldn't show any distance or speed readings

for 1) does the display say something like transmitter detected or does it have a symbol for it on the display? if not, please check if the transmitter battery is correctly installed or if there is a button to sync the transmitter with the head unit.

if 1) works and 2) doesn't, it is most likely that the magnet is not correctly aligned or is too far from the sensor/transmitter.

I have a BTwin wireless and faced the same problems.

In my case the magnet and the transmitter were not close enough. The transmitter should be around 2-3 cm away from the magnet.

Thanks for your input guys. This is a awesome forum. People seem to be very helpful :)
The distance between the magnet and the wireless sensor is 5 mm.
The Display is set on center-right on the handle bar. (Censor is also placed on right of the wheel)

My question is should the side of the magnet that attracts face the censor or it should be the other way round.
I will post pitures soon once i reach home. It think that will give you guys an idea about the alingment.

Thanks again for all your valueable inputs.

Cheers !

Got the thing working. The magnet should actually face the bottom of the sensor and should be around 5 mm away. Man it took me 2 hours to try all the combination. I m happy now..
